WEEK OF 5/13-5/16

MONDAY~TECHNOLOGY
~We played "Hangman" on the SmartBoard.

TUESDAY~DISCOVERY
~We experimented with "acceleration" using blocks, boards, and marbles.  Children were divided into groups of 3.  With each child's turn, he/she added another block under the large board to create a higher ramp.  Once the block was added under the board, the child watched his/her marble roll down the ramp and recorded how far it traveled.  Children discovered that the higher the ramp, the farther the marble would go.

WEDNESDAY~ART

THURSDAY~COOKING  We made Jolly Rancher suckers!  We talked about how a solid can become a liquid and back to a solid again!  We got to pick out what 3 flavors we wanted and we melted the candy in the oven and then added sticks to make them into suckers!

WEEK OF 5/6-5/9

MONDAY~DISCOVERY
Our Discovery activity continued with our discussion and experimenting with states of matter.  We used 9 foods and did a melting experiment.  Children were put into small groups and assigned a food.  Each group made a prediction about whether or not its food would melt after being outside for 2 hours.  The groups then placed their food items outside on the playground.  We met again after 2 hours to observe what happened.  The photos below will give you a better look into our melting experiment.
