WEEK OF 1/22-1/25

WEDNESDAY 1/23~DISCOVERY
We learned about where animals go; what animals do; and how animals survive in Winter.  First, we read the book, Animals in Winter.  Next, we did an experiment to help us understand how animals stay warm in cold weather.  We covered the child's pointer finger with shortening/lard.  Next, the child put each pointer finger into a bowl of ice water.  The finger with the lard stayed warm, while the bare finger was cold.  The shortening/lard represented the fat that builds up in animals and protects them from the cold.

Mrs. Bateman has been reading parts of  the original "Winnie the Pooh" story.  This is in preparation for the 4th grade musical, "Winnie the Pooh", which will take place in March.
